A vital part of Mourne Park since the end of the last Ice Age when the glaciers departed smoothing the top of Knockchree and leaving great boulders strewn behind.
The Whitewater River flows through Mourne Park from North to South.
A spate river, fished by the Kilkeel Angling Club who help to stock the river from a hatchery and who nurture and manage the flow through many pools.
The river is home to a variety of creatures including sea trout, wild salmon, kingfishers, pine martin and otters.
